Absence Procedures
What must I do if my child is absent?
When your child is absent, parents or legal guardians must write a written excuse note to the school explaining why your child was absent. Please be specific to the reason why your child was out of school. Excused absences are as follows:
State Attendance Rule 160-5-1-.10 states that students will be excused from school under the following circumstances, as a minimum.
-Personal illness or attendance in school endangering a student's health or health of others.
-A serious illness or death in a student's immediate family necessitating absence from school.
-A court order or an order by governmental agency, including preinduction physical examinations for service in the armed forces, mandating absence from school.
-Observing religious holidays, necessitating absence from school.
-Conditions rending attendance impossible or hazardous to student health or safety.
-A period not to exceed one day is allowed, at the discretion of the local unit of administration, for registering to vote or voting in a public election.
-Visiting with a parent or legal guardian prior to leave from deployment to a combat zone or combat support posting as a member of the armed forces of the United States or the National Guard (maximum of five school days per year).
ATTENDANCE*: Regular attendance is important to your child’s progress at school. To avoid your student missing an entire day of instruction, please try to schedule any necessary appointments late in the afternoon. If you know in advance that your child will be absent from school on a certain day, please notify the classroom teacher. Students are responsible for make-up work upon returning to school. The students will have two (2) days for each day absent to complete make-up work.
